After aligning with the client on broad direction, we began exploring the look and feel. It was important to ensure the Sweet Shot brand drove the visual tone and that their product was represented beautifully and accurately. We explored abstracted 3D spaces with ripples, bubbles, and pedestals. We landed on a marriage between a stylized 3D world and energetic, poppy, and playful graphics.

With the look and feel established, we pulled back to sketches to develop enough key frames to tell a compelling story. We edited them together to refine pacing and explored a handful of audio track options that would be key in keeping the energy high.

It was critical to have a 3D cookie that looked delicious from all angles. After picking the best in the batch, we used the Moves app from Maxon and captured over 150 photos. Supplemental LIDAR data gave us a preliminary model and material. Additionally, we shot high resolution photos of each cookie to integrate into our texture work to push the realism further.

After processing the scans and creating the base mesh, we further perfected the asset by sculpting in Zbrush to bring out any fine details lost in the scan process, smooth over imperfections, and create the most idealistic cookie.

Once we had our hero cookie models textured, we started the look dev process. We lit and adjusted materials to push the realism; dialing in subsurface scattering, sheen, and displacement to get that fresh-baked look.

Just like our client’s cookies combine perfectly measured ingredients to create something tasty in the end, our artists pull every shot apart and recombine it in just the right amounts to create the perfect cookie.
